For some patients seeking to eliminate or reduce the need for glasses, neither laser vision correction (LASIK or PRK) nor refractive lens exchange are suitable surgical choices. Patients who are young and very near-sighted (myopic) or far-sighted (hyperopic) may benefit from receiving an artificial lens implant in their eye to augment their eye’s focusing power. (This surgery differs from “refractive lens exchange” in which an implanted in the eye after the natural lens is removed.)
There are two varieties of phakic intra-ocular lenses: the Verisyse™ and Visian ICL.
If one of these choices will give you the best chance of glasses independence, Dr. Klein will discuss this option with you at length.
