Intacs

Intacs® are used in patients who have keratoconus, a debilitating disease of the cornea. In keratoconus, the corneal fibers are weak and corneal drooping can occur. Intacs can be placed within the corneal layers to help lift up the cornea and recenter the tissue.

Intacs® can be a very helpful tool in keratoconic patients who are doing poorly with contact lenses but would like to avoid corneal transplant surgery. Intacs® in some patients can allow for better contact lens fitting and an avoidance of more invasive procedures.
